June 29, 2008 Western Divisionals PostponedHigh water on the Pend Oreille River at Oldtown Idaho has forced the postponement of the AOF Western Divisional races 4th of July weekend. The tentative date is now July 18, 19, and 20. The host club, Stateline Outboard Racing Association made the decision to delay the race after Race Chairman Terry Fiorelli and AOF President Rod Black both visited the site to evaluate the situation. The Albini Falls dam operators advised that there was a slim chance the water might be down enough for the pit beach to be usable but there would be no let up in the unusually high current flow and the decision to postpone was a safety issue. Black and Fiorelli concluded there was no way safety boats could operate in the high current therefore driver safety was the determinig factor. Further details will be posted as they become available. Also check the Stateline site, www.slora.com.
West Coast Racing Inaugural SuccessJune 11, 2008 Minimost Test SuccessfulSaturday June 11, was first on the water test for the Spokane Minimost. Builder Dennis Westby, Rick Keller and John Pifer took the boat from the Spokane Propeller and Dock shop to Newman Lake for the test. The safety/pickup boat was provided by Harold Craig. The test driver was Amanda Krautcramer. the weather was windy with intermittent showers. There was a 6 to 8 inch chop. With full race gear Amanda weighed in at 105 pound. The motor was the stock Biggs and Straton 5 hp air cooled motor. With the exception of the added steering bar and relocated kill switch the motor was stock. Amanda reporte the boat was stable and comfortable to drive. The general consensus is that the package would be well suited to 8 to 12 year old kids who want to try boat racing. More detail will be reported as testing continues. For the story of building the Minimost see the feature article.
